The Profile in Courage Essay Contest invites United States high school students to consider the concept of political courage by writing an essay on a U.S. elected official who has chosen to do what is right, rather than what is expedient. The contest deadline is January 7, 2012. For details, visit: http://www.jfklibrary.org/Education/Profile-in-Courage-Essay-Contest.aspx Embers RetreatOn October 15, 2011 from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of Greenway Baptist Church, there will be a day-long retreat (called the Embers Retreat) for teens between the ages of 13-18 who have experienced the loss of a loved one, family changes (divorce, new siblings, etc.), a move/change in schools, or any life changes! There will be activities throughout the day, and food will be provided. If you are interested in attending, please see your grade-level counselor.
"Sexting"With modern technology and cell phone use, the trend known as "sexting" has opened a Pandora's box of issues for both children and their parents which can have repercussions with irreparable damage. Sexting is a play on the words "sex" and "texting." It involves sending sexually explicit messages (texts, photos, videos) via cell phone. Because this is such a prevalant topic, we hope that this announcement will provide you with some important information.

Transcript FeeEffective August 1, 2010, there will be a $12 fee per transcript charged to any person who is not a current student. The fee must be paid/received in advance of the transcript being printed or mailed. Department Links Upward Bound is a federally funded program at Appalachian State University that helps high school students develop the skills and the motivation they need to succeed in high school. This program provides the tools students need to enter and be successful in college. Upward Bound helps students reach their goals through academic support, social and cultural enrichment, and opportunities for personal growth. All services are provided at no cost to the students.
